Snow and Wind

They had a bit of bad weather today, but were comfortably tucked in to their tents at 14,200. The activity of the day was shoveling snow, and eating. The weather is beautiful this evening, and they plan to carry their loads up to 16,200 tommorow.

..David called this evening (Tuesday, July 4) at approximately 5:30 p.m. Alaska time. They made it only to a little over 15,000' but turned back due to avalanche danger. They were able to cache some supplies before turning back. They're camping at 14,200 but hope to leave the current camp and go to 17,200 tomorrow. Acclimating is still a concern, but cautiously optimistic.

He said two other teams have come through, on their way back down after trying to wait out the weather at 17,200 camp for 7 days. They never made it to the top.

David,
Thank you for calling Gretchen on July 4th and allowing her to relay the information about current Denali conditions. Our son Jacob is in the June 16th expedition, saddened to here that they may not have made it to the top we were relived to here of their relative safe condition as we haven't heard from them in days " no news is good news". Good luck to your team as we wish a safe and successful journey on Denali.
God Speed, Glenn & April Melrose
